I've played a Necro to level 30 and my Guardian is currently 40 but I still don't know what class is for me and would love to get an idea. I played a thief and was around level 30. i decided to buy the first 2 expansions for 30€. I didn’t receive any hero points and am now stuck at level 80 with only 2 specialisations fully unlocked and 3 skills. I have no idea how I’ll ever be able to acquire the 250 needed for my new elite specialisation. both things have the same function in that aspect. They differ in: 1- The Instant 80 gives you a preset exotic equipment that is for sure not optimal. It's soulbound and you cannot even salvage it or even throw it on the MF. 2- Tomes get you all the usual level up rewards.
